CBSD Transportation Information
Columbia Borough School District (CBSD) is a walking school district, meaning transportation is not provided for students, with the exception of those with special needs as determined by an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or other qualifying factors. CBSD encourages students and families to walk or bike to school.
Safety Tips for Walking to School
Always use sidewalks where available. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic and stay as far to the side as possible.
Cross streets at designated crosswalks and always look left, right, and left again before crossing.
Make eye contact with drivers before crossing to ensure they see you.
Walk in groups when possible, as there is safety in numbers.
Avoid distractions such as texting or using headphones while walking.
Wear bright or reflective clothing to increase visibility, especially in low-light conditions.
Safety Tips for Biking to School
Always wear a properly fitted helmet to protect against head injuries.
Follow all traffic laws, including stopping at stop signs and obeying traffic signals.
Ride in the same direction as traffic and stay in designated bike lanes when available.
Use hand signals to communicate with drivers and other cyclists.
Ensure your bike has working brakes, lights, and reflectors.
Be extra cautious at intersections and always look for turning vehicles.
By following these safety guidelines, students and families can enjoy a safe and active commute to school. Thank you for helping us create a safe environment for all!
